Charles E. Phelps is a former Provost and University Professor at the University of Rochester (Rochester, NY) who, in addition to being a renowned health economist, has been involved in astronomy as a hobby, specifically writing about amateur astronomy equipment. He served as Provost at the University of Rochester for 13 years, retiring in 2006, and is also a noted health care economist and Professor Emeritus.
This presentation will consider four questions: How big is the universe?, How do we know?, What did people know in earlier times and how did they know?
